Free OCR to Word
Free OCR to Word questions
Pictures, editable tables, supported files and local recognition.
Is Free OCR to Word really free?
Yes. Version 8.1.0 is free to download and use, including Word layout export with pictures and editable tables. There is no paid unlock for those features.
Can a scanned PDF keep its pictures and tables in Word?
Yes. The default layout export keeps positioned text and picture regions, and converts regular table grids into editable Word cells. Review the result beside the source and use the picture or table tools when an area needs correction.
Can I convert JPG and PNG images to Word?
Yes. Import a clear document image, run recognition and review its layout. Save DOCX to keep pictures and editable table cells, or use TXT when you only need the wording.
Does it work offline?
English OCR uses the included model and processes documents locally after setup. If a required Microsoft runtime is missing, Setup may need the internet to install it. Optional language models are downloaded separately.
Will every page look exactly like the original?
Layout export retains text placement, detected font styling, pictures and table structure. OCR and font matching are estimates, so difficult scans, unusual fonts, merged cells and complex pages may need corrections. An exact copy of every original is not guaranteed.
Can I correct a missed picture or table?
Yes. Mark the picture area or rebuild the table region in the app, check the layout and export Word again. Compare names, numbers and cell contents with the original before relying on the result.
Which file formats can I import?
PDF, JPG/JPEG and PNG are supported, along with BMP, WebP and TIFF document images. Multi-page TIFF imports become pages in one document. The app limits each input to 200 MB and each document to 250 pages.
Can I recognize languages other than English?
English is included and works offline after setup. The language menu offers optional French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Simplified Chinese models. Download a model with an internet connection before using it offline. Select the language that matches the document and check the recognized text.
Can I process several documents?
Add multiple files and use Convert all files to process the queue. Review and export each document individually. This release does not merge all queued files into one Word document.
What happens when I cancel recognition?
The app stops remaining work at a safe point. The current page may finish before cancellation completes. Results from other documents that already completed remain available.
Can I scan directly from a scanner?
The app includes a WIA scan action for compatible Windows scanners. Direct scanning depends on the device and its installed Windows driver; TWAIN-only scanners are not supported. You can also use your scanner’s own software to save a PDF or image, then import that file. See the scan-to-Word guide.
