Free OCR to Word
Scan a paper document to Word
Create a readable scan, recognize its text and export an editable document.
Start with a readable page
Place the document flat and keep its text upright. Remove shadows, folds and motion blur where possible.
Create the scan
Use your scanner’s Windows software to save the page as a PDF, JPG or PNG. You can then import the saved file into Free OCR to Word. This workflow does not depend on a particular scanner being connected directly to the app.
Recognize and save
- Open the saved scan in Free OCR to Word.
- Choose the language and run recognition.
- Compare the text placement, picture regions and table cells with the paper original.
- Use the picture or table correction tools where needed, then export Word with layout.
- Open the DOCX and review its final pages in your word processor.
Keep the source scan
The original remains useful when a name, punctuation mark or number is unclear. OCR does not certify that the recognized wording matches the source.
